Heritage Care’s own local hero

The Grantham Journal Competition ‘Grantham is Great’ had a category for ‘Local Hero’ which was for people who have made a significant difference to local peoples’ lives. Lisa Nicholson’s Staff decided to nominate her as they thought she was a very worthy nominee.

Lisa works for Heritage Care in Grantham and has made a major contribution to her local community over many years. The Celebrations Active Care Club, which aims to offer the opportunity for vulnerable adults to meet up and participate in a variety of sports activities, was Lisa’s brainchild. It was launched on 10th September 2013 and has just celebrated its first birthday after a very successful year. It started with just 2 members and now regularly has 14 or 15 people attending who participate in a variety of fitness activities plus crafts and social activities. It is clear that Lisa has made a definite improvement to the lives of adults with learning disabilities in Grantham, through the formation of this group.

In addition to the Celebrations Club, every Wednesday night, after a long day at work, Lisa runs the Leisure Support Group on a voluntary basis. Lisa has been in charge of and run this 20 year old group for many years, again making a huge difference to the general wellbeing and social life of many adults with learning disabilities. One more reason to call her our Local Hero.
